Southampton Boat Show temporary marina

Some fun facts regarding the Southampton Boat Show temporary marina that we build and dismantle each year.

- As far as we know, it is the largest, regular, temporary marina in the world.

- This year’s marina is hosting 318 boats ranging in length from 3.7m to 48.0m plus numerous hospitality facilities. The total area allocated for the boats is 14,609 square metres.

- It is made up of 353 standard walkway pontoons, 134 standard finger pontoons and 23 special walkway pontoons of various shapes and sizes. In all, over 10,000 square metres of Walcon pontoons.

- The main piers are built using both single and paired units, ranging in width from 2 metres through 2.5m, 4m, 4.5m to 5 metres around the bridges (also made and installed by Walcon).

- Our barges play a vital role in bringing the pontoons to the site, inserting the piles and installing the pontoons.

- The outer perimeter features continuous floatation in the form our Waliflote product. This not only makes it very stable, it also has wave attenuation properties to protect the area within.

- A combination of our steel-framed and aluminium-framed pontoons are used, depending on their size and position. They are supported by our fibre-reinforced, concrete encased, expanded polystyrene floats; our roto-moulded plastic with expanded polystyrene filling floats; and our new triple skin roto-moulded plastic floats.
