Private wooden jetty in sensitive location

It’s not all marinas and commercial berthing at Walcon. This spring we performed a like-for-like replacement of a 90-metre fixed timber jetty for a private client with a waterfront house at Itchenor, Hampshire. The old structure and piles were carefully removed and the new walkway built behind it as the project proceeded. With strict planning restrictions in place, the old piles were removed by the Walcon mobile piling rig and the new greenheart piles inserted in exactly the same positions using a 8-tonne, 360° excavator mounted on the barge to vibrate them into the seabed. The new walkway has hardwood decking and stainless-steel handrails, and the entire structure dries out at spring tides. In all, a classic example of small-scale civil engineering and traditional craftsmanship.
