2021 was the year when populations around the world, emerging from the worst of COVID-19 but still unable to fly to their usual holiday destinations, discovered the great outdoors in their own countries. Many of these people experienced for the first time the freedom that comes from going out on the water in boats of all shapes and sizes, and decided they liked it!
As a manufacturer of pontoon and berthing facilities, we welcomed the confidence that this brought to the entire leisure boating sector in the UK and beyond. For our customers it was a breath of fresh air that gave them the confidence to start looking ahead and making plans to expand and upgrade their facilities. In the meantime, there was work to be done on projects such as the supply of a turnkey, luxury, 228 berth marina for Egypt’s premier Mediterranean resort development; Marassi.
Walcon Marine Australia supplied the pontoons and walkways needed to equip a new, man-made inner harbour with berthing for vessels up to 48 metres in length. Heavy duty and extra-heavy duty versions of our System 2000 aluminium walkways and finger pontoons were used, all fitted with durable decking and continuous fender protection. In all, 23 separate docks were installed, all accessed via specially-designed, high specification gangways.
Additional features included the latest in services distribution systems and fire-fighting equipment to ensure a safe marina in full compliance with the latest global standards. We also installed a fully operational services dock for the provision of fuel and water and the removal of onboard liquid waste. The project was carried out in partnership with EDECS (El Dawlia Engineering & Contracting) of Egypt for the EMAAR Properties Group.
