30 years after Walcon first installed a marina at Port Solent, we returned to the Premiere Marinas location to undertake a reconfiguration of the layout using the original pontoons and walkways, still in good condition following a recent re-decking. The reconfiguration reflected the change in customer requirements following the growth in the average size of leisure craft over the years. With a number of smaller berths not being used, the decision was made to take out three existing piers and replace them with just two, with longer finger pontoons designed for boats from 14 to 17 metres in length. Other pontoons were also lengthened and the marina can now berth yachts up to 33 metres in length.
Walcon supplied the new finger pontoons and brought in its piling rig to extracted and redrive the piles involved, and to drive some additional greenheart piles. Feedback from Premiere Marinas indicates that the reconfiguration has been a very effective and cost-efficient way of maximising the return from the space available. In the autumn we will be returning to replace a number of lock pontoons.
