British Yachting Awards 2020

We are delighted to see that four of the six marinas nominated for this year’s British Yachting Awards, are equipped with Walcon access bridges, walkways and finger pontoons.

Fox’s Marina, cited for offering “access to stunning cruising grounds, superb facilities and access to a selection of the finest craftsmen and repair facilities in the country”, is currently partway through a rolling refurbishment programme. This year we were on-site for works including upgrading Pier B with new pontoons and installing a new Walcon steel access bridge.

Buckler’s Hard Marina is a finalist for being “a real gem, providing a wonderful haven just a stone’s throw from the Solent, recently revamped and now more desirable than ever.” In fact it is now halfway through a complete rebuild with Walcon undertaking the works using a mix of new and refurbished pontoons, while at the same time adding new capacity.

Boatfolk’s Deacons Marina on the Hamble river made the cut for being “a welcoming boatyard that has accommodated sailors such as Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and Tom Cunliffe to name but two legends among many.” A long-standing client of ours, we were last there in summer 2019 to extend three piers to link them to mid-river pontoons.

Finally, MDL’s Northney Marina makes the list of finalists as it “offers a blend of top end facilities, stunning location and ready access to one of the great cruising harbours of the south coast.” Our most recent works there took place in early spring, when we replaced some finger pontoons and carried out piling work.

Also nominated are Falmouth Marina and Neyland Yacht Haven. Go to https://www.britishyachtingawards.com/category/marina-of-the-year/ to cast your vote. Voting closes at midnight on 15 November.
