WALCON MARINE CONTRACTED TO SUPPLY AND INSTALL PONTOONS FOR NEW SCOTTISH MARINA

Walcon Marine, the market leader in the design, manufacture and installation of marinas and yacht harbours around the world, has been contracted to supply and install the pontoons for a new 230 berth deep water marina at Portavadie on the west coast of Scotland opposite Tarbert on Lower Loch Fyne.

The contract was signed by the team from Portavadie Estates, the owners and developers of the new marina, on the Walcon stand at the recent Southampton International Boat Show.

The new Portavadie Marina is situated just 1 ˝ hours by road from Glasgow and is in an excellent location for both cruising and racing yachtsmen on the beautiful west coast of Scotland. With easy access to Largs, Kip, Troon, Ardrossan, Arran and Northern Ireland, owners Portavadie Estates are determined that the marina will provide facilities amongst the highest quality in Britain.

Not only will the berths be fully serviced with water and electricity, a pump out facility and a diesel and petrol berth, but shore side benefits will include luxurious showers and toilets, a launderette, a quality bar and restaurant and a chandlery, all situated in a purpose built, modern facilities building.

Additionally, there will be superbly designed self catering family accommodation of the highest quality, with occupancies available from 2 to 8 persons. Free berthing in the marina is also included in the price of the accommodation for guests staying ashore.

The modern designs of the shore side accommodation will make extensive use of renewable energy systems and have been sensitively designed to blend in with the local environment. Portavadie Estates is keen to emphasise its green credentials and before embarking on the final designs, conducted a full environmental impact assessment of the 100 acre site to ensure it retains its natural beauty and minimises the impact on the local environment.

Also ashore will be a marine hoist of 30 tons capacity, hard standing for winter storage, dry stack berthing for RIBS or small powerboats and an under cover service areas for maintenance and repair, again all built to the highest specifications.

This is the largest contract Walcon has won in Scotland and represents the icing on the cake of another successful year for the company. Walcon Marine will be using its tried and tested System 21 pontoons for Portavadie Marina with 3m wide main walkways, together with its Walifloat wave attenuating system.

The whole marina site is protected by a caisson breakwater providing calm conditions on the berths and the new pontoons will also include a 70m hammerhead.

Further plans over the next ten years will include full shore side leisure facilities and a stunning development of individually designed luxury detached properties for guests and visitors.

Commenting on being chosen to supply the pontoons for the new Portavadie Marina, Clive Kemp, Commercial Director of Walcon Marine said: -

“We are delighted to have been chosen to supply the pontoons for the new Portavadie Marina. From the outset of our negotiations, the team from Portavadie Estates has emphasised its determination to insist on only the best materials, top quality architecture and design and the ultimate in service.

“We at Walcon have taken that edict on board and will work closely with Portavadie Estates to ensure we deliver our side of the bargain in order to help place Portavadie Marina as the best in Scotland when it opens in late 2007.
